Frequently Asked Questions
Q | How do I know if I’m brushing too hard?
A | There are a number of indications including squashed bristles, sensitive teeth after brushing. In general, most people don’t know that they brush too hard. The right pressure to effectively clean teeth without causing damage is about 150 grams. But what’s that? Dr. Peter Heasman BDS MDS FDSRCPS PhD DRDRCS, world renowned dentist and researcher says, "It is virtually impossible for the average user to gauge how much pressure they are applying during their brushing regime.” Zent Flex is the only toothbrush that limits brushing pressure to that magic 150 grams (+/- 10 g) no matter how hard you brush. Brush safely with Zent Flex. Other links to research can be found in our “In the news” section at the bottom of our home page.
Q | I have an electric toothbrush. Why do I need a Zent Flex?
A | Unless you have trouble using your hands, according to the ADA (American Dental Association) a manual toothbrush is just as effective as an electric, and there has yet to be conclusive, clinical evidence to the contrary. While electric toothbrushes are “cool” and have been heavily marketed as superior, the truth is that manual toothbrushes are cheaper, travel better, and are just as effective as electric toothbrushes.
Q | I’m a dental professional; are there partner programs for me to carry Zent Flex in my office(s)?
A | Yes. Please contact us for more information.
Q | Is there a Zent Flex for kids?
A | Zent Flex is safe to use for kids with adult teeth (7 and up). We plan to make one specifically for little kids so they can learn proper brushing pressure technique early on. Check back later this year or sign up for updates for when it becomes available.
Q | Is Zent Flex available in retail locations?
A | Not at this time. You can purchase Zent Flex through our website, or ask your dentist or hygienist if they’re part of our partner program.
Q | Is Zent Flex covered by insurance?
A | Not at this time, but we’re speaking with certain insurers to cover it under their plans as it saves gums and $$.
Q | Is Zent Flex patented?
A | Yes. Zent Flex is patented. United States Patent No. 10638829. The unique design keeps the brush rigid up to 150 grams, and then snaps back if you brush too hard.
Q | Are Zent Flex bristles soft?
A | Yes. Zent Flex bristles are the highest quality, 0.7 millimeter, 6.12 nylon filaments made in the USA providing gentle, yet durable comfort, and resistance to bacteria. Zent Flex lasts up to twice as long as other brushes since the bristles are less likely to splay from aggressive brushing.
Q | I noticed a little bit of “dust” on the bristles when I opened my Zent Flex. Is that normal?
A | Yes. Our bristles are end-rounded and polished during the bristling process. Then they are vacuumed in our equipment after they are polished, but a occasionally, a little bristle dust remains. It is completely harmless, and a quick rinse under water will get rid of it.
Q | Is Zent Flex recyclable? What about the plastic!?
A | Zent is conscious of the environment, and while the plastic handle and stainless steel joint are recyclable, we intend to develop a replaceable head version as soon as possible. We are a new company trying to first and foremost help people save their gums and teeth, and help teach kids and young adults the correct amount of pressure before they start doing damage. Because the patented “click-joint” is made of high quality, stainless steel, it requires something strong and rigid enough - like plastic or aluminum - to support it and maintain the right pressure (150 grams) no matter how many times you “click”.
The handle is intentionally thin, not only to encourage gentle brushing and prevent counter-top rollover, but also to use the least amount of plastic possible. Also, because our bristles are such high quality (made in the USA), and you’re not splaying them by brushing too hard, ZentFlex lasts up to twice as long as other brushes further minimizing waste.
